Triple digit heat with heat indices between 100 to 110 degrees has been the main weather story for the first half of August. Many locations have broken high temperature records over the past several days.
A slight moderation of temperatures is expected by Saturday…with high temperatures forecast to reach the mid to upper 90s. However…increased humidity will result in heat indices of 100 to 105 degrees over most of the midsouth Saturday afternoon.
If temperatures remain above 100 degrees each day through Friday…Jackson would reach 11 consecutive days at or above 100 degrees while Memphis and Tupelo would reach 8 consecutive days at or above 100 degrees.

Record high temperature set at Memphis.
A record high temperature of 106 degrees was set at the official
reporting station at the Memphis Airport this afternoon August 15th.
This breaks the old record of 103 set in 1943.
A record high temperature of 104 was set yesterday August 14th at the Memphis Airport.
That temperature broke the old record of 101 set in 2006. Also a record high minimum
temperature was recorded on the 14th…81 degrees breaks the old record of 79 degrees set in 1923.

Nashville breaks record for this date with 104 degrees.
The temperature reached 104 degrees at 321 PM CDT. This breaks the record for this date
of 102 degrees set back in 1954.
The hottest temperature ever recorded in August…is 105 degrees set back on August 9th 1930.
The hottest temperature ever measured in Nashville is 107 degrees set back in July 1952.
There’s been 11 consecutive days of 99 degrees or above in Nashville.
This is the longest string on record of 99 degrees or above. The previous longest string was
8 days back in 1952.
Nashville has reached triple digits on 8 of the last 9 days.
Nashville has recorded 8 days this August with triple digit heat…which breaks the old record
set back in 1954.
