August heat wave maintains a strong grip on the midsouth.

Record high temperatures were set today at Memphis…Jackson… and Jonesboro. Mid afternoon heat indices over the midsouth ranged from 105 to 110 degrees.

Temperatures over the midsouth should reach the century mark at most locations on Friday. Some relief is anticipated by Sunday… as the upper level high pressure ridge retreats slightly and moisture increases. By the middle of next week…the upper level ridge is expected to build back over the midsouth…resulting in much warmer than normal temperatures.

Observed high temperatures for locations across the midsouth.
