Winter weather travel safety rules.

Roads…bridges…and overpasses in the warning and advisory areas may become slick and hazardous. Accumulation of snow on roadways…bridges and overpasses will make travel hazardous.

Exercise caution if travel is necessary. If travel is necessary…drive with extreme caution. Reduce driving speeds…leave plenty of room between you and the motorist ahead of you…and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration…and be especially cautious or when making turns.

Carry a winter storm kit in your car. The kit can include:

  • Windshield scraper and brush.
  • Sack of sand or Cat litter for traction.
  • Shovel.
  • Toolkit for emergency repairs.
  • Tow rope.
